Nov 14th Meeting - 7 PM

Meetings - Time Change - Back To The Old Time for Good

If you have a topic or treatment you can explore for the group - let me know so I can set up a meeting for you to run.

RVA Prostate Cancer Support Group - Va Us Too Meeting at 7 PM Thursday Nov 14 At Ridge Baptist.

RVA US TOO/ZERO CANCER MEETING NOV 14TH 7PM WILL DISCUSS ISSUES RELATED PCa TREATMENT & DIET AND HEART ISSUES.

I HOPE YOU WILL COME AND SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE as heart disease is the number one cause of death and Lupron ADT doubles its occurrence. My heart doctors have wanted me to get a Pacemaker for about 8 years because with a holter monitor on my heart for 24 hours my heart stopped for 4 seconds and I had afib. This summer with the monitor on for two weeks my heart stopped for 7 seconds but I do not seem to have afib but I have something called PVC which is an occasional prefiring of the heart which may or may not be a problem??? But they still want to give me a monitor with no symptoms so I am going to have an echocardiogram at VCU in January to measure my ejection fraction of Blood from my heart which if I was younger they say should be between 50 to 70 %. If mine is 40% at my age I will not get a monitor with no symptoms.

My older brother (86) had a low heart ejection fraction of 14 % until he had a valve. replaced at UVa and a pacemaker..placed. He.would get out of breath talking on the phone in a few minutes so I would hang up. Now after the treatment (two months) he has an ejection fraction of 36% and is better. In addition, I found on google that high phosphate in the diet is bad for this heart issue and many of the things we take for muscles growth and fighting PCa are high in phosphate like most meats(but not fish), beans, nuts, all dairy, cheeses and lentils etc (you need to check your diet so you not over do things good for fighting PCa but bad for the heart). It turns out that magnesium at 400 mg/day (normal diet) to 700 mg per day(if high phosphate diet) supplements may be needed to eliminate Phosphates. Also 80 mg/day of zinc in supplements helps the heart phosphate load and reduces copper that increases blood veins feeding PCa mets and helps reduce phosphate injury to the heart.

I hope you can add your experience of heart issues at the meeting.

Hope to see you there.

Best
Peter

4. Heart carotid artery blockage/hardening of arteries - effects and treatments

June 20th Meeting - 2 PM

(Meeting Thursday June 20 th at 2 PM at Ridge Baptist church fellowship hall.(For This Meeting only 2:00 PM) )

Meetings - Time Change - Back To The Old Time

*************************************
If you have a topic or treatment you can explore for the group - let me know so I can set up a meeting for you to run.

We will discuss any questions about your treatment.

I will also discuss the much new information I learned this month about Dihydrotestosterone and how blocking it with Avodart can prevent rapid PCa Growth by stopping Multiplication of Androgen receptors on the cancer cells (As I have done for 24 years without knowing exactly how it was helping until this week). I will also discuss the use of Ferroptosis to kill the PCA cells that instigated in early May 2024 which has brought my PSA rise to a stand still at 2.3 after it had been doubling every 5 months for 4 years starting at a PSA=0.030 in June 2020 when casodex failed and I became crPCa. Plus a few new supplements I will discuss.

Life is better after 3 months of Pneumonia after Covid and 24 days of diarrhea from antibiotics for pneumonia.

I hope you are doing well and if you have questions and can not make the meetings call me at 804-387-2151.

I hope to see you Thursday.
(I have developed a new understanding of How Avodart reduces cancer androgen receptors on the cancer cells, How Iron supplements with Casodex can produce Ferroptosis to kill cancer cells, How Rapamycin with Casodex can kill cancer cells and How histamine grows cancer and is bad for the heart. Diet foods can be high sources of histamines (they are often a source of stomach upset)(you need to check your diet for high Histamines)- Vitamin D & C,B6, B12 & Folate, bioCurcumin and Quercetin lower Histamine In your Blood and slow cancer.

Also, I will discuss the use of Rapamycin with Casodex to kill cancer cells. I will be covering New information you will have trouble finding anywhere else unless you search for research papers online. I hope you can make it. )

Meetings - Time Change - Back To The Old Time

Us Too Warriors,

RVA Us Too-Prostate meeting Thursday May 16 th at 7 PM at Ridge Baptist Church fellowship Hall
Guest Speakerer Dr. Kinloch Nelson of Va Urology discussing more advanced treatments.

Warriors,
I hope you can make this meeting as there are many new treatments in the standard of Care and
I think this is our first meeting discussing them. I hope this meeting will discuss treatments
after "biochemical recurrence" when cancer comes back after surgery or radiation and up to and
including treatments for Castration resistance. This is a very varied process with many twists
and turns. But it is best to be forewarned and thus forearmed. I hope to see you there.

Best
Peter

If you have a topic or treatment you can explore for the group - let me know so I can set up a meeting for you to run.

I am in the process of getting younger men to start taking on the responsibility of keeping the Group going as I age.

I have gotten the Mark Hippchen, Donald McCall and Jonathan Stubbs to agree to take on helping run meetings and getting speakers for the meetings. If you want to help please send me an email of your interest to help. I've Been running the meeting for over 20 years,so it is time to let someone else have some fun.

Also please talk up the meetings and bring men, women and friends who may benefit. I will continue as I can to send emails of useful information you can use to treat your PCa.

I hope to see you Thursday.
Best
Peter

Thurs. Sept 21, 2023 7:00 PM Meeting

Notice That Our meetings during the summer (June thru Oct) are in the evenings
I will be there at 6:45 PM if you want to discuss anything with me before the meetings.

Warriors, September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month so I hope you are able to come. With cancer treatment, Doctors often want men to get MRI and CT scans to see how the treatment/cancer is working/growing. This can add up to a number of scans over time. CT scans cause more radiation than MRI but MRI scans can add radiation especially to the brain area. Blood tests for inflammation can help tell if you need these scans or not so you can avoid the scans if your inflammation blood test does not indicate a growth of your cancer. I hope you enjoy the cooler weather starting now.

I am in the process of getting younger men to start taking on the responsibility of keeping the Group going as I age.

We get blood drawn repeatedly when we visit the Doctor for planning our cancer treatments. It is important to evaluate the numbers and understand what they can mean for your health and to check behind the Doctors. I plan to discuss some of these tests and interpret their usefulness.

Our Immune system is the only way our body has to protect us from developing cancers. Evidence has developed that a sialic sugars binds to the surface of cancer cells from red meat, Milk and eggs etc that keeps the immune cells from entering the cancer cells to kill the cancer. see the following paper. (T-immune cells can not enter the cancer cells to kill them ifSialic sugars are bound to the cancer cells.
I hope to see you Thursday.

I will discuss many more supplements at this meeting that fight PCa. See the Video attached below for benefits of Ursolic Acid.

I.V. Vitamin C at high doses(100gms) is an oxidant producing Hydrogen Peroxide that kills and slows many cancer growths including CrPCa, Melanoma & colon etc. When it is used with high Dose Vitamin D3 supplements = 8,000 to 10,000IU it is a double whammy ! ! ! For every 8 IU vitamin D level in the blood above 20 ng/ml, The death from PCa, other cancers and diseases is Cut by (%) with my present Level of Blood Vitamin D3 of 100ng/ml in my Blood my chance of death from cancer and all causes is reduced by 90%. This is supported by my recent remission of my stage 4 melanoma after 10 metastases (two in the brain). I hope to see you Thursday

Covid protection helps us all. I have a grand nephew who went to College for the first time and caught covid in September and has suffered all year with long Covid. I am suffering from Fatigue from my immunotherapy treatment and I do not need to add long Covid or short Covid on top of this fatigue. Fatigue is a common side effect of ADT PCa treatment. Thurs. Apr 20 th, 2023 2:00 PM Meeting

At the meeting, April 20th 2 PM meeting at Ridge Baptist Church Felowship Hall -" Immuntherapy may be coming of Age now for Advanced PCa???"

Us Too Warrior,

As some of you know, I am using Immunotherapy infusion called "Opdualag" to fight My Melanoma. A component,"Nivolumab", of this drug, has been proven to work recently in a prostate cancer clinical trial for PCa too. My PSA dropped from1.7 to 0.9 ng/ml last month. Of course I am throwing everything at it including the kitchen sink so I can only hope Nivolumab helped because when I was in the hospital and could not get my meds my PSA doubles every two weeks (PSA went from 0.7 to 1.7mg/ml over the 14 day in the rehab hospital where I learned to walk again.

Immunotherapy works well when you have a cancer with a lot of Mutations = a hot cancer. PCa is not considered a hot cancer until you have a high gleason or has progressed to an advanced stage. Melanoma (a fast growing cancer as compared early PCa) is often HOT with 50% with BRAF mutations like I have and I have had my PCa for 29+ years starting with Gleason 8, so My PCa with mets could be Hot too with possible protein P10 and P53 loss of Function mutations. Jerry Deans had loss of P53 protective function and another member we lost quickly had P10 loss of Function. For these advanced Prostate cancers mutation, Immunotherapy treatment holds a lot of Promise. At the meeting, I will discuss how I am priming my immunotherapy with food, supplements, exercise and drugs to help my cancer fights. I hope you can come as the immune system can wane with age so we need to do what we can do to strengthen it. The immune system is the best protection we can do for ourselves with the right diet and exercise to keep it strong.

The Google website below for the latest research for treating Advanced P53 and P10 mutated PCa.

If the weather is Good we may meet outside in the parking lot near the Door.

Thurs. Mar 16 th, 2023 2:00 PM Meeting

At the meeting, I will relate what I Have learned with three stays in the hospital of 5 , 9 days and 12 days over the last 4 months and 15 + scans of all types on all my body parts from stem to stern, two biopsies and 12 doctors on how to negotiate the medical system. I think you will benefit from my experience and help you find your way if you need to get help.. I will discuss how my radiation to Melanoma mets, Immunotherapy (Opadulag), Hi dose (75 gm 2-3x/wk) Vitamin C i.v., nano Niclosamide (2 gm/day heat & shaked in olive oil), and Surgery (Brain) are fighting my stage 4 prostate cancer and Stage 4 Melanoma. Both Melanoma and PCa grow by testosterone attaching to the androgen receptors on their cancer cells.

Thanks for the kind words I Have Received from many in my recovery. The cancer in my brain caused pressure that paralyzed my right side. I could not move my right leg to walk for a month. After rehab I can walk slowly and my right arm is somewhat weakened.

I have a lot to be thankful for including Prostate cancer as I would not have found my melanoma cancer mets (10 Mets) if I was not looking for mets from Prostate cancer.

If the weather is Good we may meet outside in the parking lot near the Door.

Next Meetings in 2023 Are To Be Determined

I hope the end of the year 2022 finds you in Good spirits and ready to take on the challenges of the new year. I am starting my SBRT treatment for melanoma bone metastasis in the left hip. I am heating the area with 6500 and 8500 infrared Light. The heat from the light is soothing and I hope it aids my immune system. I am adding high dose Vitamin C IV to improve the immune system and move some of the blood enzymes for both prostate and melanoma cancers in the right Direction. I expect that the Vitamin C IV will help both Melanoma and Prostate cancer so I will get two bangs for my BUCK.

I hope we will have a Us Too Prostate meeting on Jan 19 th at 2 PM. I am looking for volunteers to run Meetings in the future. If you have any questions about your treatments for PCa you want to run by me? Please call my cell phone 804-387-2151.

PS. I have to be thankful I have prostate cancer because when using a pet scan to look for Prostate cancer Metastasis, I found the Melanoma metastasis.

I hope you can make the Meeting on Thursday Nov. 17 at Ridge Baptist fellowship Hall at 2 PM. I hope you will bring Ideas/Topics you would like to discuss in the meetings next year as well as your immediate concerns about your treatment Now.

What are your needs/worries about your present treatment?

I will have Two doctors appointments the Morning of our meeting - Second opinion appointment of my Melanoma treatment by VCU specialist and Discussion of my treatment plans with Primary Doctor at VCI and Blood Draw for lactate dehydrogenase isoenzymes (measure of Lactic Acid production and "Warburg Effect" which is bad for cancers (PCa and Melanoma both) - My (not Doctors) plan for melanoma is SBRT radiation with Dr. Cuttino early December(kills cancer and stimulates the immune system).

Four weeks later (By this time Radiation has primed my immune system), I will start immunotherapy with Opdivo and Yervoy. In weeks before Immunotherapy. I will get high doses of I.V. Vitamin C ~ 50gm/time twice a week to lower my lactate dehydrogenase and further prime my immune system .

Let me Know how this new time works for you? Many of us more Mature Guys have some eye issues that make driving in the dark a challenge.

I do not expect to have a meeting in December - But I will try to keep all informed on developments in PCa and Melanoma best I can.

I hope you can make the Meeting on Thursday Oct 20. at Ridge Baptist fellowship Hall at 2 PM.

The Covid level in Richmond and Henrico fell to a lower level this last week and I Hope it continues! We still need to mask and distance as most of us are in an age range that makes us more likely to have a bad result if infected. If the weather is good we may be able to take chairs outside and meet around the door of the fellowship Hall. WE need to meet to see how we are doing and help each other to find what and who may help them in the battle.

I have been to John Hopkins and gotten some advice on how to proceed from my Pet scan to sort out further treatment with my now rising PSA again after 28 years.

I will relate what I have found out and what is expected for further treatment depending on what the anticipated MRI and Ultrasound scans at VCU Radiology find.

Zoom Meeting at Tues Dec 7, 2021 at 7 PM EDT
By Dr. Yu VCU MRI Radiologist Interpretation Specialist

The sign on to the Zoom Meeting follows - But if you have any questions you want Dr Yu to cover - send them to me by about Dec 4th and I will send them on and he will try to cover them in his presentation. He has diagnosed a hip met for me as well as a number of lymph nodes from my cancer in Dec 2017 by MRI.

He diagnosed my Brother's 3+4 gleason cancer by MRI Guided ultrasound Biopsy and is following his active surveillance by MRI evaluation next month and if my PSA gets close to 1 or above I will have him find out where it is again with another MRI.

I learned that to find the cancer in the rest of the Body you need to extend the image field to include those areas as often for biopsy it only includes the pelvic area. best Peter

ADT Treatments for advanced PCa may set us up for heart disease and if we progress to metastasis, the Anti-Androgen treatments can finish us off.

I will try to relate what is known - but unfortunately with the new anti-androgens like Xtandi, Zytiga, apalutamide, and nilutamide there is not enough research to know THE DETAILS BUT A SMOKE GUN IS ENOUGH FOR YOU TO GO to cardiologist to check your heart before starting any of them and especially before ADT lupron or degarelix. Lupron is believed to set you up for heart failure by itself BUT these Anti-Androgen usually used with lupron MAY mAKE IT WORSE.

For example, The older antiandrogen by itself (monotherapy as I am using it) does not cause heart Problems but with Lupron ADT the combination does. I will talk about this and other aspects of PCa and Heart disease at our meeting thursday-Hope to See you.

Antiandrogens may increase mortality risk in men with CVD
Badar M. Mian, MD
August 30, 2019 - Volume: 47 - Issue: 9

Genitourinary Cancers, Prostate Cancer

Badar M. Mian, MDAdvanced prostate cancer and cardiovascular disease often coexist in older men. Over the last 5 years, new second-generation antiandrogens, namely abiraterone (ZYTIGA) and enzalutamide (XTANDI), are being used with more frequency in men with advanced prostate cancer. Patients with significant cardiovascular disease (CVD) are often excluded from clinical trials for reasons that are understandable. But in clinical practice, the excluded patients are often the ones treated with those same medications.

A new study suggests that newer antiandrogens may increase the risk of early mortality and hospitalization, especially in men with known CVD such as myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, stroke, or ischemic heart disease (Eur Urol Aug. 2, 2019 [Epub ahead of print]).

Lu-Yao and colleagues used the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER)-Medicare-linked files (representing nearly 31% of the U.S. population) to identify men with prostate cancer who had received chemotherapy and abiraterone or enzalutamide. A total of 3,876 patients were eligible for the study, including 2,845 treated with abiraterone and 1,031 treated with enzalutamide. The main goal of the analysis was to determine the mortality rate within 6 months after starting therapy with these two antiandrogens. They also wished to determine the risk of hospitalization after the initiation of antiandrogen therapy.

Also from Dr. Mian: Untreated MIBC has short natural course, significant morbidity

Interestingly, 67% of the eligible patients had one or more documented CVD before receiving abiraterone or enzalutamide.

In the post-chemotherapy group of patients being treated with abiraterone, 24% died within 6 months, compared with 17% in the pivotal trial that led to its approval. Among patients being treated with enzalutamide, 28% died within 6 months, compared with 12% in the pivotal trial. In the group without chemotherapy, 18% of patients died within 6 months of starting abiraterone and 17% died within 6 months of starting enzalutamide.

In the post-chemotherapy cohort receiving either abiraterone or enzalutamide, there was no significant difference in hospitalization rates between the two drugs. However, those with one or two CVDs had a 43% increased risk of hospitalization compared to those with no CVDs.

*******************
Next: Higher hospitalization rate in abi patients with no chemo

Antiandrogens may increase mortality risk in men with CVD: Page 2 of 2
Badar M. Mian, MD

August 30, 2019 - Volume: 47 - Issue: 9

Genitourinary Cancers, Prostate Cancer

Higher hospitalization rate in abi patients with no chemo

In the group without chemotherapy, abiraterone was associated with a higher rate of hospitalization than enzalutamide among patients with one or more CVDs. In this group, hospitalization rate was higher with abiraterone use even in the patients with no history of CVD.

As stated by the authors, the worse outcomes (cardiovascular toxicity and/or mortality) following the use of abiraterone have been reported by previously published meta-analyses. In the STAMPEDE trial, the addition of abiraterone was associated with improved cancer-free-survival but no real improvement in overall survival, likely due to increased cardiovascular mortality.

It appears that abiraterone is associated with worse outcomes even if there is no documented chemotherapy or CVDs. However, without direct comparison, we cannot suggest that one drug is superior to the other. Other antiandrogens such as apalutamide (Erleada) and darolutamide (Nubeqa) have been approved recently and the use of antiandrogens has been moving “upfront;” eg, before chemotherapy and without metastases. This will likely result in increased use of drugs in this class, making the issue of adverse outcomes even more relevant.

Read: Renal mass biopsy safe, but when is it necessary?

The usual limitations of a retrospective analysis apply to this study as well. The data do not allow for a comparison with an appropriate control group that did not receive abiraterone or enzalutamide, or direct comparison. However, the Medicare-linked SEER data represent a broad cross-section of the population that is afflicted with prostate cancer and CVDs, which makes the information presented here quite pertinent for most clinicians.

The phenomenon of worse outcomes in the real-world setting after the initial approval of a drug or device has been well documented. Clinicians often loosen the criteria beyond what was allowed in the clinical trials, exposing the patients to a host of drug-drug or drug-disease interactions.

The subjects of this study had also received androgen deprivation therapy, which is associated with developing CVDs. Is it possible that these subjects were primed, through previous use of ADT, for worse outcomes following the addition of abiraterone and enzalutamide? The unique contribution of these second-generation antiandrogens to cardiovascular mortality is not entirely clear.

Several professional organizations are offering workshops geared towards incorporating these and other oral anti-cancer agents into the practice of urology. Hopefully, the educational activities will sufficiently emphasize a more careful selection of patients for these drugs. There is a clear impetus for a multidisciplinary program to monitor the treatment and adverse outcomes of newer antiandrogens which, at present, may be out of the comfort zone of many urologists.

Molecular Genetic Testing in Prostate Cancer - Wassim Abida

Wassim Abida provides a current roadmap for molecular genetic subtyping in prostate cancer with the main goal of targeting the right therapies for progressing patients. The one clear indication for molecular testing at this point is in the identification of MSI-high prostate cancer because pembrolizumab is approved for this indication. Investigational PARP inhibitors (poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitor) is a substance that blocks an enzyme in cells called PARP. PARP helps repair DNA when it becomes damaged.

Meeting Topic:

Us Too Warriors. We like to have you review what is happening in your treatment at least a couple of times a year so we can learn from each other and help each other. We are able at any meeting to discuss among ourselves informally any issues you are experiencing with the hope of helping. Please come so we can learn from you and give you feedback if needed and you can help others in the Battle.

Us Too Warriors. Some of our men with advanced cancer have found out their Gene mutations with the hope that they & their Drs. can better select the course of treatment that works best for them.

So far we have 4 men with the following mutations: TMPRSS2-ERG fusion; Pten; Spink1+/ETS- and PMSA on the cancer cells. If you can find the gene mutations for your cancer from saliva, blood or tissue test, you can research the papers applying them to their treatments. I have been finding papers this week for 3 of these men and myself.

Us Too Warriors,

This fall I plan to have several talks On Gene Mutation And PCa.

At our next meeting I will be speaking about strategies I have learned over the
last 20 years to counteract the stress involved in fighting prostate cancer
including metastatic disease for the last 13 years.

For this months meeting. I have put together a presentation on gene Tests for Cancer
mutation that can help to pick treatments for the specific mutations. My research has
help me to find my Gene fusion defect = TMPRSS2-Erg mutation and then I was able to find
research papers that confirmed my present self directed treatment was a GOOD treatment.
If you find your defects it may help you find a treatment which will work for "your cancer strips".

I think this presentation will aid you in fighting your cancer by talking about how gene
mutations detection can help you make better treatment choices-Making these choices is called
Precision Medicine. The attachment is a PowerPoint presentation that is in a PDF file format
that you can download if you have an Acrobat reader downloaded on your computer. If you do not
have Acrobat Reader Google it and download it free to your computer.
https://acrobat.adobe.com/us/en/acrobat/pdf-reader.html

Look over the Slides to see what you can understand and what you want to know more about - I will
try to make it clear in my discussion at the meeting.

I will also discuss BIpolar High testosterone treatment which I believe may last longer
than PARP inhibitor treatments for advanced cancers.

A paper on Bipolar testosterone treatments is attached below

Jerry will make reference to the lessons learned in the book he has written and recently made available on Amazon. Wilderness experiences we have endured include but are not limited to surviving cancer, dealing with the losses of our 16 year old daughter and our first granddaughter, the spinal cord injury of our 16 year old son, and the alcoholism of his twin brother.

These experiences have driven me into the wilderness and caused me to learn strategies to control enormous amounts of stress and anxiety.

Come learn about and put into practice an ancient method of stress reduction.

Additional Information:

HSP 90 & PI3K/AKT - PCa growth Pathways and natural Inhibitors to slow cancer growth!!

HSP90 is a Heat Shock Protein ~ 90 k Daltons in size, a chaperone molecule which helps molecules fold correctly protecting them from heat and dehydration degradation. It helps protect PI3K/AKT from degradation there by aiding its growth stimulation actions. HSP90 inhibitors cause degradation of AR protein and its nuclear exclusion, whereas AR antagonist like enzalutamide also inhibits AR nuclear localization thus its transcriptional activity.

Natural inhibitors of HSP90 = Green Tea, Curcumin, Korean Red Ginseng, Capsaicin.

PI3K is phosphoinositide 3-kinase, a family of enzymes involved in cellular functions such as cell growth, proliferation, differentiation, motility, survival and intracellular trafficking. Tumor suppressor PTEN, is implicated in the sensitivity of cancer tumors to insulin and IGF 1, and in calorie restriction. PTEN (Phosphatase and tensin homolog) is a protein that negatively regulates Akt/PKB signaling pathway. (Metformin also activates calorie restriction Pathways which are shown to increase longevity in many living systems including human.)

AKT is known as Protein kinase B (PKB), a serine/threonine-specific protein kinase that plays a key role in multiple cellular processes such as glucose metabolism, apoptosis, cell proliferation, transcription and cell migration in cancers.

mTOR = mechanistic Target Of Rapamycin (mTOR) is in same family as PI3Kand like description as above.

PI3K/AKT/mTOR natural Inhibitors = Chinese Skullcaps, Quercetin, Black seed, DGL Licorice, apigenin [43], curcumin [44], cryptotanshinone [45], fisetin [46], indoles (indole-3-carbinol and 3,3′-diindolylmethane) [47], isoflavones (genistein and deguelin) [48], resveratrol [50], and tocotrienol [51]. METFORMIN made from french lilacs.

Many more Inhibitors and Promoters are named in the excellent discussion at website below:

Meeting Information
For our Jan and Feb Meetings in 2019 only.
The Doors will open at 4:30 PM and the Meeting will start at 5:00 PM.

RVA US-Too - 5:00 PM - Feb 21, 2019.

We start at 5:00 PM - Doors opened about 4:30 PM.

Meeting Topic:

There are two parts to the meeting. I will make announcements and talk (about 45 Minutes) about the effects of differ forms of Testosterone and Estrogen on prostate cancer growth and what you might do about them. For example, estrogen rises with age and testosterone falls which is suspect of making PCa occur as we age. Also, estrogen is higher in African Americans which is also suspected of making their cancer more likely to advance.

At About 5:45 PM, Butch Hammit (from Peak Performance, MechanicsVille) will discuss "Swiss Wave Protocol" using acoustic wave for improving erections that has been advertised in the Richmond TD newspaper almost every night. One of our members ( age 60 yrs) who has been "Cured" of PCa has tried it and seems to be having initial benefits. It promotes blood flow to the area thru several treatments over several months which helps men with heart conditions such as hardening of arteries which can cause ED.

Increased Blood flow in the area of cancers may be a concern as we might expect an increased in PSA that occurs with sexual activity or exercise of the pelvic area. This treatment is not FDA approved so it is not covered by insurance. We are exploring this treatment to see if it may have benefit for some men.

"Peak Performance For Men".
This is A New, Proven and Successful Treatment for Erectile Dysfunction.

Focused Linear Compression Therapy (FLCT) protocol is scientifically proven to increase blood flow to the penis and optimize erections, sensitivity, and sexual performance. FLCT is a series of short comfortable treatments to the penis using focused linear compression sound waves that create long lasting results for erectile dysfunction and Peyronie's Disease by increasing blood flow and nerve tissue. The sound waves repair aged blood vessels, stimulate growth of new blood vessels and remove decades of micro-plaque. This procedure opens the blood vessels in the penis which is essential for a firm, rigid erection which also stimulates the nerve endings to greatly enhance sensitivity. This procedure is non-invasive, completely pain free with no side effects, no surgery, no use of drugs and no downtime. This breakthrough revolutionary technology is the only viable option for men with erectile dysfunction or men looking for better sexual performance with long-lasting results and no harmful side effects whatsoever.

We are pleased to announce the first Us TOO support group call
for the women behind the men affected by prostate cancer.

Because prostate cancer is a couple's disease, the woman is often subject to her own concerns in addition to those she shares with her partner. A Forum for Her will be a regular call series which will focus on women and offer peer-to-peer support to address these concerns.

A Forum for Her is a regular call series (and invite-only Facebook group) which focuses on women and offers important peer-to-peer support. So far, the calls have been going great and will continue to expand.

As group membership grows and we become more comfortable with each other, we will be looking for volunteers to lead smaller group calls. If you would like to volunteer to help lead a small group call, please email me at terril@ustoo.org or call 877-978-7866.

(Your involvement would not require too much time or effort beyond the typical call length of about an hour. We would only be looking for you to lead calls, not come up with information, materials, or topics.)

In order to address very specific experiences, these calls are open only to wives and female partners of men affected by prostate cancer.

Please note that space is limited - Contact me at terril@ustoo.org or 877-978-7866 to reserve your spot and to get the call-in information!

A Big Thank You to Jerry
Capturing the Magic

How do you capture the Magic? The magic I’m referring to is the strength and hope that passes from one to another when we find our tribe...when we find people who have lived through a particularly difficult experience that we are being forced to endure.

The Board of Directors and staff of Us Too were recently trying to find a concise statement that captured the unique value of Us Too. What happens in a support group or over the phone when a newcomer shows up full of fear and teetering on the edge of resignation after getting the news from his doctor “I’m sorry to tell you this but you have prostate cancer "or “The treatments did not work and your cancer is now metastatic”. Those words and the overwhelming feelings they elicited in me still reverberate deep in my soul.

Many of you know what it is like to face your mortality or that of a loved one diagnosed with some kind of cancer or disease that strips you of your sense of control and your fantasy that you will live forever. “This is not part of my plan. Why is this happening to me? What do I do with this diagnosis and this fear I am feeling?

This is the juncture in people’s lives when Us Too support groups are most valuable. But how do you put into words the magic of human compassion, strength and courage that passes from one to another when we are at our lowest and someone says “This is not a death sentence. You have important treatment and lifestyle choices to make. We can help you survive and navigate this experience. You are not alone in this struggle. “

As the Board and staff searched for the right words the following statement emerged:

Us Too helps men with prostate cancer learn to fight this disease. The power of Us Too is in helping men and those who love them, transform resignation into determination and fear into Hope. On the journey to beat prostate cancer?...Us Too.!!

I have seen and talked to so many men who came to a meeting downhearted and left uplifted and hopeful. I was one of those men. We all agreed the statement captured the essence, the Magic of Us Too.

I just finished Cyberknife treatments for a metastatic prostate cancer nodule in my lower left lung at Georgetown University Hospital. My Us Too friends helped me find the facility that was the fifth in the world to get the Cyberknife machine that would track my breathing. The Pulmonologist who placed the markers in my lung that allowed the machine to “see” the area of treatment, invented the procedure.

I give thanks for my Us Too group and the 200 plus groups across the nation and around the world that are taking the fear out of prostate cancer. I am also thankful for your prayers and encouragement through which I have continued to grow deeper in my faith in God and humankind. Through your past contributions you have been part of the wonderful exchange of hope...the Magic, that takes place at Us Too meetings all over the world. I invite you to join me in contributing to this worthy cause as I walk with hundreds of others in Chicago on Sunday September 9th. Please click on the link below to go to my fundraising page.

RVA Us Too Warriors, I hope you will be able to support Jerry generously as you have in the past to
keep The "Us Too" Headquarters working to help more men in the USA and around the world. As a group, we
have donated about $3000 dollars a year to help Jerry walk in a good cause and if you have not you
should go to our website and look at the Hot Sheet - the international headquartered in Chicago puts out
each month and send out over the internet to help men. September is national Prostate cancer month.
